Hello, World and Google. I’m Pixel, a little black female cat (although 97% of humans think I’m a male). I’m ten months old and live with a very interesting couple. This is a short story about me and how you can go camping with your cat.
I was saved from the street by a girl, and for the first two months, I shared a space with a dog and an iguana. Imagine that everyday party! Then, a couple stepped in and took me to their place. That moment was when everything started to be more interesting.
By nature, I’m very likeable and soft. I like snooping in the house and reminding the owners that it is playtime. It is cozy lying down next to the computer, but pardon me if I suddenly jump. I’m just a kitten with a high interest in cuddling, purring, delicious pouches, and taking your favorite stuff. All day and night, I’m the guardian, and by the early morning, I’m your alarm clock.
I like watching birds and humans outside or lying down on the balcony. If something scares me, I jump back to the apartment. That is my safe space.
Although I’m a pretty house cat, the owners decided one day to take me camping with them. But that was quite expected since they love nature. I thought that traveling somewhere was easy. You enter that metal box, and the owner makes some strange moves called driving. In a short period, you are somewhere.
In practice, that isn’t the case. Travel sometimes takes too long, and I get bored. Firstly, I’m going to be in a transporter for the whole traveling. Remember to also put some blanket in it. The new experience was that I felt one moment the pain in my belly, and the next thing was that food came out. The owners needed to take a break so we could get fresh air and clean the transporter and me. But that is not serious because every living thing experiences vomiting.
When I’m okay in that metal box, I like to imitate the owner’s voice so they don’t forget that I’m in the back seat. They sometimes have a passion for constantly making noises, which they call talking.
Going camping, especially with a little cat, requires serious preparation. Owners need a tent, sleeping bags, mattresses, food, water, and backpacks. I need all of that plus additional crucial things only for me.
I need my mobile toilet properly cleared for the next two days and some additional sand in the bag in case I need it. Food and water bowls are essential, and please bring extra delicious pouches.
If you don’t want to be extra bothered by my high energy in the tent, make sure to bring some stuff that I play with. A little scratcher would be a nice touch.
When we arrive, the first thing you need to do is find a good place for a tent and set it up. Make sure there are no dogs nearby. You can leave me outside, but in the transporter, for the whole time of preparing the tent. I like to check what is going on.
Make sure to set the blanket on the matress so I don’t scratch it. For some time I will be cautious while exploring the tent but it will get better. Especially when I can jump over the owners so they don’t forget to play with me.
The toilet and food are outside the tent to prevent funny smells inside. Overnight, I’m sleeping in the transporter in the tent.
Make sure to leave the tent open when you bring me outside. In case of something strange, I always jump back into the tent. If you want me to go hiking with you, pack some backpacks for me. My owners have a simple backpack, and I have a full view from inside. But my favorite thing is to put my head outside from the side pocket.
Make sure to bring water and not go on long hikes when I am with you. That is especially important to know in case of high temperatures. The alternative is to leave me home or to go to pet-friendly accommodation where I stay while you hike.
Cats are great companions, but you need to be cautious and prepared if you want to take them camping. It can be very funny, but it is also very responsible if you want to protect your furry friend. Pixel is an explorer and a very interesting cat, and we still learn so much about her. Cats are introverts who show us why it is important to put ourselves first and enjoy life.
